Sheep for sale Saskatchewan Canadian Arcott breeder
Both of us grew up in rural Saskatchewan and always wanted to end up in the country near the family farm. Having a knowledge of grain farming and owning cattle we became curious about another growing industry.. SHEEP!
We did a lot of research, a bit of financial figuring and toured a local feedlot. That fall we purchased 30 head of North Country Cheviot crosses as well as 20 Canadian Arcott crosses and proceeded to have our first lambing season ever - we figured it would be a good opportunity to learn about the breeds. |

We both had full time jobs off the farm - a semi-confined winter lambing operation fit our schedule best. This is where the Canadian Arcott's shined! They were winter hardy, docile, excellent mothers and the list went on and on.
We loved everything about the breed and wanted to invest in high quality, young animals so we began looking to pure breeders. We are forever grateful to have made acquaintances with Rolly Bateman - a Canadian Arcott breeder near Pilger, SK. He taught us so much and continues to mentor us. We invested in young ewes and ewe lambs and began focusing on exceptional breeding, feeding, etc. and over the past years we have built our flock with our own replacements as well as purchasing more replacement ewe lambs from breeders. |

Today we mostly have a pure-bred operation with only the best from our original commercial flocks still with us.
In November of 2019 we showed our animals for the first time at the Canadian Western Agribiton. We were very pleased with how our animals placed - our main breeding ram Element placed Grand Champion in the Canadian Arcott class and Reserve Supreme Grand Champion overall. Our ewe lamb Gorgeous who was one of our first round of 100% Haynestock Farms breeding placed Grand Champion Ewe in the Canadian Arcott class. We learnt a lot from our experience at Agribition as first time exhibitors - neither of us have ever been involved in 4H or anything of the sort so it was all very new to us and we were very proud as husband and wife to show our animals side by side. Due to Covid all sheep shows/competitions came to brief halt - so in Nov 2021 we were beyond excited to rejoin the very welcoming sheep producer's community at the 50th Canadian Western Agribition. At the 2022 Grasslands Sheep Exhibition our ewe Haynestock Jalapeno placed Supreme Champion! We continue to sell breeding rams and replacement ewe lambs and enjoy meeting our customers, having farm tours and discussing all things sheep related. For the past three years we've experimented with rotational grazing, annual cover cropping and winter bale grazing as part of a regenerative program on our land base - with great results to our land, feed quality an overall lambing percentages. |
