Located near Ituna, SK Offering breeding rams, ram-lambs & replacement ewe-lambs
Whether you are looking at getting into sheep or are a current producer - Canadian Arcotts are an exceptional breed!
They were developed at the Animal Research Farm in Ottawa and are a crossbreed consisting of 37% Suffolk, 28% Ile de France, 14% Leicester, 7% North Country Cheviot, 6% Romnelet and the remaining 8% is a mix of Shropshire, Lincoln, Southdown Dorset, East Friesian, Finnsheep and Corriedale. They will be medium sized with a shorter, thick build - this meat breed produces high amounts of muscling. With exceptional mothering they are nurturing, easy lambers and do well in a pasture, confined or semi-confined management system. Lambs are very vigorous at birth, quick growing and finish nicely for light and heavy lamb markets.
Pulling the best characteristics from all of the above breeds we feel they are engineered for Canadian conditions - the ewes make great, easy keeping mothers and the rams provide an excellent cross on any breed when used as terminal sires.
